Report on World Environment Day Tree Plantation Programme

The Guwahati City Branch of the Assam State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2026 with a tree plantation programme held at 7:00 AM in the premises of the Maternal and Child Hospital, behind the CN Centre, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati.

The programme was organized with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and reinforcing the commitment of the medical fraternity towards sustainable development and ecological conservation. Members of the surgical community, faculty members, and postgraduate students enthusiastically participated in the initiative by planting saplings within the hospital campus.

The gathering was graced by several distinguished guests and senior members of the medical fraternity, including Dr. N. N. Das, Dr. M. K. Choudhury, Dr. K. Bhuyan, Head of the Department of Surgery, GMCH, Dr. R. C. Brahma, Registrar (Academics), Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Our Own Forest Man Dr Manoj Saha, Prof. Dipak Sarmah, Prof. Nirmal Agarwal, Dr. Tridip Medhi, Dr. Ujjal Chakraborty, Dr. Rupnayan Goswami, Dr. Ganesh Das, Dr. Joydeep Purkayastha, Dr. Jodunath Buragohain, Dr. Anisha Singha, and Dr. Mallika Singha, along with postgraduate students and members of the Association.

The dignitaries emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and highlighted the role of healthcare professionals in fostering a cleaner and healthier environment. They noted that hospitals and healthcare institutions not only heal patients but also have a responsibility towards preserving the ecosystem that supports human health.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to continue supporting initiatives aimed at environmental protection and sustainable living. The tree plantation programme served as a reminder that small actions undertaken collectively can contribute significantly towards building a greener future for generations to come.
