The Association of Surgeons of India, Guwahati City Branch of the Assam State Chapter, in collaboration with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), organized a comprehensive Cancer Awareness Programme on January 4, 2026, at the GMCH Auditorium. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, staff, and students of the university, particularly the BSc Medical Technology courses.
The event was presided over by eminent dignitaries of SSUHS, including Prof. Anup Kumar Barman, Vice-Chancellor, SSUHS, Dr. Sujit Bordhan, Registrar, Prof. Karabi Baruah, Controller of Examinations, and Prof. R. C. Brahma, Registrar (Academic). Faculty members of the BSc Medical Technology courses, along with staff and students of SSUHS, were also present in large numbers.
The programme focused on creating awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of timely medical intervention. Expert talks were delivered by Dr. Joydeep Purkayastha, Dr. Krishnali Hazarika, and Dr. Nishant Deka, who addressed various aspects of cancer awareness. The speakers highlighted common risk factors, early warning signs, advances in cancer management, and the crucial role of healthcare professionals and students in spreading awareness at the community level.
In their addresses, the dignitaries emphasized the role of academic institutions and professional bodies in public health education and lauded the initiative taken by the Association of Surgeons of India, Guwahati City Branch. They encouraged students to become proactive ambassadors of cancer awareness and preventive healthcare.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, fostering meaningful dialogue between students and experts, and reaffirmed the collective commitment of SSUHS and the Association of Surgeons of India towards cancer awareness and community health promotion.
