The Guwahati City Branch of the Assam Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), in association with the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), East Zone, successfully organized the prestigious “Meet the Master” academic program on 13th June 2026 at Arista by Ambition, Guwahati.
The highlight of the event was the presence of Prof. C. Palanivelu, pioneer of Minimal Access Surgery, whose remarkable contributions have transformed the field of gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery in India and beyond. The program attracted surgeons, trainees, and medical professionals from across Assam and the Northeastern region, providing a unique opportunity to interact with one of the foremost leaders in modern surgery.
The event commenced with a live workshop session broadcast from Nemcare Superspeciality Hospital, Guwahati, featuring operative demonstrations moderated by eminent surgeons from the region. The evening scientific session was inaugurated in the presence of distinguished guests, including Prof. C. Palanivelu as Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Anup Kumar Barman, Vice Chancellor, Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, as Guest of Honour.
The scientific program featured a technical video demonstration on Right Hemicolectomy, a live discussion on Rectopexy and Laparoscopic Anterior Resection (LAR), and an inspiring lecture by Prof. Palanivelu titled “Innovation and Future Directions of Minimal Access Surgery”, in which he shared his journey, experiences, and vision for the future of surgical practice.
The gathering also included a felicitation ceremony honoring the moderators and contributors whose efforts ensured the success of the workshop and scientific sessions. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Biswajit Deuri, Organising Secretary, followed by dinner and informal interactions among participants.
