On 13th June 2026, a Free Surgical Camp was successfully organized at Navadweep Hospital, Nalbari under the banner of the Nalbari/Rangiya District Branch of the Assam State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI).
A total of 11 surgeries were performed during the camp, including:
- 5 Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies
- Jaboulay’s Procedure for 2 cases of giant hydrocele
- 1 Totally Extraperitoneal (TEP) repair for inguinal hernia
- 1 Open Hernioplasty for inguinal hernia
- 1 Repair of an infraumbilical incisional hernia
- 1 Endoscopic Discectomy for L4–L5 disc herniation
Surgeons from various parts of Assam participated in the camp and rendered their services voluntarily. Anaesthesiologists from different hospitals of Nalbari and Rangia also extended their valuable support, ensuring the smooth conduct of all surgical procedures.
The surgical camp was followed by a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme in the evening at Hotel Q Green, Nalbari. During the academic session, Dr. Saurav Baruah delivered an insightful lecture on “Laparoscopic Management of Common Bile Duct Stones,” while Dr. Kangkana Barman presented a talk on “Artificial Intelligence in Surgery.”
The programme concluded on a historic note when Prof. (Dr.) P. P. Das, Chairman of the Assam State Chapter of ASI, officially announced the formation of the Nalbari District Branch of the Assam State Chapter of ASI. The announcement was warmly welcomed by the attending surgeons and marked a significant milestone in strengthening surgical academic and professional activities in the Nalbari region.
The event was a grand success and reflected the collective commitment of the surgical fraternity towards patient care, continuing medical education, and professional development.
